What the card is showing

Showcases are the configurable panels under a Steam profile's summary — a favourite game, screenshots, artwork, a badge collection. Steam gives one slot for every 10 levels, so the card adds a box each time the slider crosses a multiple of ten. Slots your current level already gives are shown as yours; the highlighted ones are what the climb adds.

Slots stop at 20, which you reach at level 200 — Steam Support lists that as the current maximum. That is why the slider stops there: past 200 the profile looks the same, and every extra level pays for the badge alone. One more slot can be bought from the Points Shop with Steam Points, on top of the cap; the card leaves it out because it has nothing to do with your level.

The friend-list cap starts at 250 and grows by 5 with every level, up to a maximum of 2,000. It is the one unlock here that is functional rather than cosmetic — and the reason traders and people running large groups level at all.

The badge around your level number changes colour every 10 levels and shape every 100. The card shows that rhythm with our own colours and shapes rather than Steam's artwork, so read it for when things change, not for what your badge will look like.

The card-set count uses the same XP curve as our calculator, and the two are checked against each other automatically. Each complete set crafts one badge for 100 XP, and every ten levels each level costs more XP than the last — which is why the second five showcase slots cost far more than the first five.
