Showcases are the panels below your Steam profile summary β the part visitors actually look at. How many you can place is decided by one number, your Steam level, and the rule behind it is simpler than most guides make it sound.
How many showcases do you get on Steam?
One showcase slot for every 10 Steam levels. Level 10 gives one, level 50 gives five, level 100 gives ten. The slots stop at 20, which you reach at level 200 β Steam Support states that as the current maximum. One extra slot on top of that cap can be bought from the Points Shop, and that is the only way past it.
Everything below follows from that one rule: what the slots cost, where the price stops making sense, and why nobody needs level 300 for their profile.
The count at every milestone
The card-set figures are from the site's own calculator, so this table and the price you would be quoted always agree. One complete set is one badge craft, and one craft is 100 XP.
| Level | Showcase slots | Card sets from level 0 |
|---|---|---|
| 10 | 1 | 10 |
| 25 | 2 | 45 |
| 50 | 5 | 150 |
| 100 | 10 | 550 |
| 150 | 15 | 1,200 |
| 200 | 20 (the cap) | 2,100 |
| 250 | still 20 | 3,250 |
To watch the slots fill in rather than read them off a table, drag a level on the showcase simulator.
Read the last two rows together. Level 250 costs 3,250 sets β 1,150 more than level 200 β and gives exactly the same number of showcases. Above 200, you are paying for the badge and the friend slots, not for the profile.
The other pattern in that table is the one that decides most people's target: the slots get more expensive the more you have. The first five (level 50) cost 150 sets. The next five (level 100) cost 400 more. The five after that cost 650, and the last five (level 200) cost 900. The full cost curve explains why β the XP per level rises every ten levels β but the short version is that a showcase at level 30 and a showcase at level 130 look identical on your profile and differ enormously in price.
What a showcase actually is
A showcase is a configurable block on your profile page. You choose what each slot displays: a favourite game, screenshots, artwork, your badge collection, items from your inventory, reviews you have written, achievements, videos, and a handful of others. A profile with one showcase shows a single panel under the summary; a profile with ten looks like a built-out page.
That is the whole benefit β showcases are one piece of the wider profile customisation picture. They do not affect trading, drops, discounts, or anything functional β what Steam levels actually unlock goes through the full list, and showcases are the only unlock most people can see. Which is exactly why they matter: they are how a level reads to a visitor.
Two things follow from that:
- An empty slot is worth nothing. Five configured showcases beat ten slots with three filled. Before buying levels for more slots, fill the ones you have.
- The first few slots carry most of the effect. The difference between zero showcases and three is a different-looking profile. The difference between seven and ten is not.
The Points Shop showcase
Steam Support's levels page notes that a showcase bought on the Points Shop adds one slot on top of the level-based maximum. Two things worth knowing about it:
- It is bought with Steam Points, which you earn by spending money on Steam. Points are not XP and do nothing for your level β the two systems are separate, and the Points Shop showcase is the one place they touch.
- It is one slot. It does not repeat, so it is not a route to more showcases than levels would give you; it is a single bonus slot for accounts that want one more.
If you already have Points sitting unused, it is the cheapest showcase you will ever get. If you do not, it is not a reason to spend money on the store.
Which level is actually worth it
Because slots are linear and the cost is not, there is a band where showcases are cheap and a point past which they are expensive for no visible gain.
Level 30β60 is where showcases are cheapest. You pick up one every ten levels while each level still costs a modest number of sets. Level 60 gives six slots for 210 sets. That is the band the level 50 vs 100 comparison lands on for most people, and the reasoning is the same: the showcase count is the only thing on the profile that changes, and by then the price per slot has already tripled.
Level 100 is defensible if you genuinely fill ten showcases β some collectors, artists and reviewers do β or if you are near the friend cap, which is the other real unlock. It is ten slots for 550 sets.
Level 200 is the end of the road for showcases. Twenty slots, and nothing beyond. Anyone leveling past 200 is doing it for the badge, and that is a fine reason, but it should be the reason.
If you know how many slots you want, put the target level into the calculator and it will show what the sets cost in the currency you prefer. The rule of thumb: decide the showcase count first, then the level, then the budget β never the other way round.
The short version
- 1 showcase per 10 levels, starting at level 10.
- 20 is the cap, reached at level 200. Steam Support says more may be added, but that is the number today.
- +1 from the Points Shop, once, on top of the cap.
- Levels 30β60 are the value band; 100 if you will use all ten; past 200 buys no more slots.
- Fill the slots you have before paying for more.
The route to any of those levels is card sets β the complete guide to leveling up on Steam covers every way to get them and what each one costs.
Frequently asked questions
How many showcases can you have on Steam?
Twenty from levels β one per ten levels, so the twentieth arrives at level 200 β plus one extra slot that can be bought on the Points Shop. Steam Support lists 20 as the current level-based maximum and notes more may be added later.
What level do you need for 10 showcases?
Level 100. On the site's calculator that is 550 card sets from level 0, or 400 sets if you are already at level 50. Level 50 gives five showcases for 150 sets, which is why most people stop between 30 and 60.
Do showcases do anything besides look good?
No. They display things β games, screenshots, artwork, badges, items, reviews, achievements β and nothing else. Trading, drops, and discounts are unaffected by your showcase count or your level. The friend-list cap is the one other thing a level changes.
Can I get showcases without leveling up?
One. A showcase bought on the Points Shop adds a single slot on top of whatever your level gives you. Every other slot comes from levels, and levels come from crafting badges.
